WHO IS LANES

Established in 1992, Liquid Assets New England Swimming (LANES) is a 501(c)3 organization and is Boston's only masters swim team for New England's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community and their friends. Team members span a range of ages and abilities, from avid competitors to fitness swimmers. Our mission is to create a supportive, healthy team environment focused on fostering positive experiences through competitive swimming at the national and international level. Some members have been swimming since high school, while others are relatively new to the sport. Whatever your level of experience or aspiration, LANES is a uniquely supportive and welcoming team designed to foster well being, health, and positive social experiences through sport and competition.

The team currently offers two 75-minute weeknight practices and two 90-minute weekend morning practices per week (see our practice schedule for additional details). While all practices are optional, we encourage members to practice with us as often as they can. All workouts are coached in a masters style environment which focuses on interval and stroke training. In an average practice, you will swim anywhere from 2,500 to 3,500 yards depending on your ability and the designated workout.

Many of our members participate in International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics (IGLA) and New England Masters swim meets held across North America (including Canada) and some international locales (e.g., 2010 Gay Games in Cologne, the 2018 Gay Games in Paris, and the upcoming 2026 Gay Games in Valencia). We also have a strong presence each year at the Provincetown Harbor Swim for Life, a benefit for AIDS, Women's Health Oroganizations, and outer Cape community. A number of LANES swimmers also take part in the annual Lake George Swim and even have traveled to St. Croix for their annual swim.
